Call to Arab and Palestinian Women

The Second Palestinian Popular Conference will include a Women’s Track, focusing on women’s organizing, role, participation and empowerment in our communities. The participation of Arab and Palestinian women is critical for the success of not only this conference, but our movement and our cause. We are soliciting workshops for the Women’s Track of the conference and encourage women and women’s organizations to submit proposals below.

What: Workshop on the topic of your choice to be included in the Women’s Track

Deadline: October 20, 2010

The U.S. Popular Palestinian National Conference, Palestine: One Land, One People, One Destiny, is scheduled to take place October 29-31, 2010 in Chicago.

The Conference’s primary goal is to empower our community in the US to assume a key role in realizing Palestinian human and national rights. We have an obligation to become full participants in our Palestinian quest for freedom, self-determination and the return of the refugees to their original towns and villages. This is only possible by developing a principled, nonpartisan, and effective Palestinian voice in the US.

Building and sustaining such a voice entails addressing our community in a way that weaves together the political and the cultural. It also necessitates that we cultivate our identity and nurture its many layers and expressions, especially among new generations of Diaspora Palestinians who have significantly less contact with their homeland. We recognize that Palestine is both a cause/struggle and a homeland. It is the epicenter of a collective narrative that was woven not only in Palestine, but in the Diaspora as well. This narrative constitutes the roots of a collective identity, of literary tradition, and of artistic creation that has become global.

The conference is a project that belongs to each of its participants, therefore we are soliciting workshop proposals for the program. Since our venue space is limited so too is the number of workshops that we can accept. If you would like to lead a workshop at the national popular conference, please fill out the application below online, or send it to WomenUSPCN@yahoo.com. Interactive workshops will be given preference. Please contact the Women’s Committee by writing to WomenUSPCN@yahoo.com with any comments or questions.
